If only I knew these things, I could've built that app...

Revealed on this page...

(1) The Three Biggest Mistakes Non-developers Make: You shouldn’t invest a single dollar or minute until you know this…

(2) YOURS FREE - Private Consultation: We will show you how to think like a non-developer founder and maximise your app’s value — and did I mention it’s ALL completely FREE?

If you’ve got an app idea but don’t know where to start, if you’ve read numerous books and articles, if you’ve watched countless YouTube videos, if you’ve spoken to friends of friends, if you’ve approached big firms and they don’t have the time for you or can’t work with your budget, and you’re still unsatisfied about how you’re going to build your app; then you’re about to read the letter you’ve been waiting for. Here’s why…

Is This Really For You?

I need someone to -

  • ask the important questions that challenge my thinking
  • help me with a prototype or business plan so I can get external funding
  • work out my next steps so I’m not left in the dark
  • guide my thinking with how to plan and execute

Does this sound familiar?

Maybe you’ve got extra time that you want to use effectively, maybe you’re on a weekly rinse and repeat schedule that doesn’t give you the excitement you’re looking for, and maybe this isn’t the first time you’ve had an idea for an app - in fact, the last time you had one, it wasn’t long before you saw someone else release it onto the App Store. Every month you wait, you are losing out on the opportunity that your idea presents.

You’ve Clearly Got The Drive! But the “I’LL JUST HIRE SOME DEVELOPERS AND GO FOR IT” mentality is SILLY and COSTLY!

With that said, here are:

The Three Biggest Mistakes Non-developers Make

(1) Not understanding what technical debt is and its impact

Coding is not the most important part of building an app. And just as much as it is necessary to building your app, so is planning. What do I mean?

It’s like a building a particular room in your dream house. You need to have the architectural designs of the whole house down to the precise measurement because you don’t want to find out that the door is in the wrong place once construction is complete. The cost to fix it could’ve been avoided.

For an app, this cost is called technical debt. Technical debt? Hmm? What? This is where most non-developer founders tune out. But, you cannot afford to make this mistake! AS TECHNICAL DEBT INCREASES, COST INCREASES.

(2) They don’t have a process to maintain code quality

4856979812_163059f429_b.jpg

A surefire way to say goodbye to your users before saying hello is with a buggy app.

We’ve all heard of it. Some of us have experienced it. You tell your developers (who, by the way, overpromised the delivery date) to fix the problem. But it’s like a hydra. Not the one from Avengers, but the one Hercules battled. You cut off a head; a couple more appear. Not long after, you’ve spent 30% of your budget on bug fixing. So what do you do?

In an ideal world, your developers should have a testing plan tailored for your app. Your developers should provide testing non-negotiably. Your developers should go the extra mile to convince you that the app is not ready to be released because it is not completely tested, even if you think it’s ready to go. No need to wait for the ideal world. These developers exist. We exist!

(3) They think it’s unaffordable

no-money-2070384.jpg

This is a false statement repeatedly told to us by large development firms. Maybe you’ve been on the receiving end, only to find out that it’ll cost you half a year’s salary or that there is a minimum project size.

Unless you’re building an enterprise system that is replacing SAP, no app should ever be costly to launch. Whilst growing into large and reputable service providers, development firms often need to take on larger projects since they, naturally, have more shareholders, employees, overheads and clunkier processes. Good for the development firm, BAD FOR YOU. It stifles the growth of technology because great ideas have no way of being realised.

What’s the takeaway? Hire developers that live true to the lean business model. THE ONES WHO PRACTICE WHAT THEY PREACH ARE THE ONES THAT CAN HELP YOU HERE.

Who We Are And Why You Should Listen...

We are a team of designer developers located across Melbourne and Sydney. We don’t rent office space and we don’t have a headquarters. We don’t need it! It removes our overheads and means our clients are not paying for them. We operate a lean business model focused on working with our clients over the long-term.

We take on a variety of projects. From researchers at Monash University and the University of Melbourne, to small business owners, to joint ventures and ideas that we are invested in ourselves.

We aren’t all technical. Our team also consists of business thinkers. That's why, when you build an app with us, you won't feel as though there is a disconnect when you’re trying to convey your idea to us! And it is why we only want to build apps that help your business grow.

PROOF: A Story of a Non-developer Founder We Are Working With

Jensen, a managing partner for a Melbourne law firm, had an idea for an app that would allow buyers and sellers of real estate to make more data-driven and informed decisions.

Even though he had no experience in building apps, as a savvy business thinker, he intrinsically understood the importance of educating himself in the area, meanwhile planning heavily before investing anything into development.

Spending about a month full-time in planning, Jensen was able to formulate:

  • a release schedule including the initial and later versions of the app
  • a prototype so he could gather the look and feel of the finished product
  • a monetisation strategy without charging his users

All without investing large sums of money. A true LEAN BUSINESS MODEL!

Better yet, Jensen’s diligent planning means that there are no more important decisions to be made when development proceeds. THIS IS CRUCIAL! Good developers know that development is only an execution of a well thought-out plan.

By understanding the importance of thorough planning, Jensen has:

  • discarded of unnecessary spending
  • established confidence that there is a product to market fit for his idea
  • created a roadmap and growth plan over the next few years
  • removed the need to seek external or venture capital funding

We have helped Jensen build his first functional prototype and are currently conducting closed beta testing before the app is released to market.
